SCENE AND MONOLOGUE STUDY with Diego Matamores
Class Overview:
The class will focus on monologue and scene work with special emphasis placed on developing the actor's ability to decode a script. How to go from taking the author's words on the page to fully embodying the actions and intentions of the character. How to make the text your friend, effectively focusing energy on discovering the essential drive, physical as well as psychic, that leads to clear, focused, joyful, and effective performance.
Instructor:
Diego Matamoros is an award-winning actor, director & teacher. He is a founding member of the Soulpepper Theatre Company in Toronto, founded in 1998, and has, since its inception, acted in more than 70 of its productions. Over the past 40 years, he has performed in theatres across Canada, the United States, and the UK. In 2006, he co-founded and was the first director of the Soulpepper Academy, a two-year paid Masterclass program for actors, directors, designers, and playwrights. He has directed and taught at Canadian universities and theatre schools, including TMU, Dalhousie University, Randolph Academy, George Brown, and The National Theatre School.
